Summer is here and we are excited to host 25 young women in science for our first EcoLogik summer camp. EcoLogik is a 2.5 week full immersion program that fuses nature and technology that serves underrepresented students ages 9-15 and connects them to their National Park. Check our re-cap from Week 2! https://www.nps.gov/cabr/blogs/the-fusion-of-nature-and-technology-week-2-re-cap.htm (Note: Students in this photo were given specific specimens for these test tubes. Collect or take of any kind without permit within a National Park is prohibited). #cabrillonationalmonument #findyourpark #science #EcoLogik

Cabrillo National Monument has experienced several recent incidents of graffiti in the park. It is illegal to carve into the sandstone, or deface any property in the National Park Service. Please help protect your parks. If you witness graffiti, please report it to Park Rangers. The National Park Service (NPS) preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. #ProtectYourPark #Parks101 #CabrilloNationalMonument [Image description: Graffiti carved into sandstone cliffs.]

The @cabrillonps biologists love finding tidepool treasures like this fabulous nudibranch (Chromodoris macfarlandi)! This species is easily recognized by its deep violet color and three bright yellow lines. They use their bunny ear like rhinophores to sense the environment around them. πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’œ #CabrilloNAtionalMonument #findyourpark #nudibranch #tidepools #sandiego

We invite the community to join us this Saturday from 10-12 pm as we highlight the work of these amazing young women. Ecologik is a 2.5 week full immersion program that fuses nature and technology. This program seeks to connect young women to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic) opportunities. In collaboration with the non-profit Treobytes and the San Diego Central Library, Cabrillo National Monument invited 25 students, ages 9 to 15, to join us this summer to learn how to collect data, make biomodels, 3D print, computer program and much more. #CabrilloNationalMonument #FindYourPark #21stCenturyStewards #EcoLogik http://www.10news.com/news/empowering-young-women-through-science?autoplay=true

When the Old Point Loma Lighthouse needs a bath our amazing volunteers Kim and Karen are on it! Every couple weeks they climb the tower and use special cloths and soap to make sure the lens is sparkling for all @cabrillonps visitors. We are so grateful to them for their service! ✨✨✨✨ #cabrillonationalmonument #findyourpark #ladiesofthelight

National Parks are places that allow us to open our minds to new and different ideas, to change our perspectives, to learn from the stories and places that compose our legacy. We challenge all of our visitors to take a moment within each of their visits to just take it all in. You never know what might happen! 🌿🌿🌿 #CabrilloNationalMonument #findyourpark #americasbestidea πŸ“Έ @roy_roysky

Strolling through the tidepools at Cabrillo National Monument, you might happen up on a small, brightly colored sea slug. These Hopkins Rose nudibranchs are a delight for visitors of all ages. Friend of Cabrillo and conservation photographer, Michael Ready, recently captured their beauty and splendor in this edition of Cabrillo Field Notes. https://www.nps.gov/cabr/blogs/that-which-is-bright-and-splendid.htm Photos: Michael Ready #CabrilloNationalMonument #FindYourPark #Nudibranch #SanDiego #Tidepools

"There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more. Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. Nature always wears the colors of the spirit." πŸŒΏπŸ‚πŸŒΎπŸŒΌπŸ“Έ @arawphoto #CabrilloNationalMonument #findyourpark

Come join members of the American Cetacean Society at Cabrillo on Saturday, July 8, 2017 for International Save the Vaquita Day 2017. The vaquita (Phocoena sinus) is a small porpoise that lives only in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. There are only fewer than 25 left as of mid-2017. These cute, little mammals are being decimated by accidental catches in gillnets. Cabrillo is one of over 35 venues being held this day so come show your support by visiting our booth. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide educational brochures, coloring books, and children's activities. There will even be a life-size vaquita model present to take a selfie with! #SaveTheVaquita #ISTVD2017 #SOSVaquita #VaquitaCPR #VaquitaDay #Vaquita #CabrilloNationalMonument #FindYourPark

In the case that you need fluffy, baby animal pictures to get you through Monday... we got your back. Though they are much bigger these days and causing their parents all sorts of headaches, this was our newest clutch of baby peregrine falcons on banding day. Give us a ❀️ if you agree they are the cutest. 🐦🐦🐦 #CabrilloNationalMonument #findyourpark #sandiego
