Being a new yoga teacher my voice still shakes sometimes and I worry if I’m too much for some people. Then realizing that the same students show up week after week, and having new students compliment my teaching skills, warms my heart and assures me that this is my dharma. Above everything else, listen to your heart. Sometimes the wisdom is well-hidden, but when you notice the feeling of heartblowing wisdom filling your chest and sparkling and shining throughout your body, you are no longer in doubt. When Burnout Knocks: The struggle of keeping teaching healthy, honest, and vibrant. ✨✨ I have heard most yoga teachers I know, at one point or another, say something along the lines of, “I have been teaching so much, I haven’t had time to practice.” This statement usually precedes weeks or months of the dreaded but all-too- familiar malaise of yoga-teacher- burnout. In professions in which holding space and giving to others is paramount, such as teaching of all kinds, caregiving, public interest work, social justice, medicine, counseling, and so forth, the threat of offering so much there is nothing left in the tank is a constant occupational hazard. When burnout happens among yoga teachers, however, there are additional layers of expectations and stereotypes that must be overcome. Just because yoga fosters calm, relaxation, and balance in students does not mean that teachers reap the same benefits simultaneously. Feelings of restlessness. Intense heart breaking loneliness. Crippling fear. They all pass when we allow them to be felt fully. When we get on the beast of life and ride. The problem with problems is that most of us, (myself included at times) believe that we shouldn’t have any. That sensations that are uncomfortable mean that something is wrong, or that we are out of alignment. The truth is, we wouldn’t know the beauty without the discomfort, without the so called “unfavorable” emotions. Wherever you are. Whatever you’re feeling, be with it and let it move. Because it will my loves. It absolutely will.
Narni’s little meow! ☺️🐱🎈 I haven’t been posting as many flows or yoga videos and it’s been a really needed and authentic way for me to be in my practice- no phone, no watch, no “stuff”- nothing except me and my mat and and my sweat and my breath and movement. I work on my phone every day so taking breaks is so so so needed. My mantra lately is savoring each moment in real time. Spending less time on my phone, taking more baths, reading more books, and taking longer walks to see all the fall leaves without my little device at my side. I love social media platforms but honestly real life can be so damn good. Don’t let yourself miss out on it. And all that about being said, here’s a video of me doing a handstand. 😂 #balance right?! ❤️ ❤️❤️

“You can always wish for what you don’t have , but always respect what you do have .” The past week I have been unable to do much physically . This has been extremely difficult for me as I am normally more active then I even realized . Through this process I’ve been forced to sit with myself and reflect. I have learned to respect and give value to the things I am able to do no matter how “simple” it might seem , be it cleaning the house / playing with my dog / or even a basic yoga practice. These are all things valuable to me yet I never give myself credit for doing them . Often dismissing it as something anyone could do . universe I am listening to your message .
